WUCC 2026 was held in Limerick, Ireland from 15th Aug to 22nd Aug. Over 100 teams and more than 3,500 players participated across all divisions — open, mixed and women's. Brute Squad won their US nationals this year and had high expectations on the podium position for WUCC 2026.

Mangie shared her experience of the tournament: “The experience in the world was crazy... starting with the place, it was incredible. Everything was in the same area: the fields, accommodation, restaurants, markets, and an incredible environment to chill and relax after the games.”

“About the competition,” she continued, “you know that every match is extremely important. Although in the first games you can afford to make ‘some mistakes,’ at a certain point you reach the most important part of the competition, where one small mistake can be enough to get you out. Because in some instances, it is not only about the level you play at; it is also about the energy you have, the intensity, and the small things you do.”

“It wasn't easy to lose in the quarter-finals,” Mangie went on, “especially knowing that we had a big gap in the score, but that's sports; someone has to win. In this case, it wasn't us, and of course, that hurt me a lot. I wanted to win, and we had the team to do it, but it wasn't possible this time.”

“Apart from the sadness of losing,” she added, “I took a lot of lessons from the tournament, strong connections with my teammates, and a lot of happiness from seeing people I love so much. This sport has given me the opportunity to keep in touch with them.”

“Finally,” Mangie reflected, “I was surprised by the high level that I experienced. It is an honor to be able to be part of this, and I am also motivated and grateful to keep contributing to the growth of this sport.”

Mangie Forero has lately been in the spotlight, both for the VC super team playing the Allstar women's tournament, winning the World Club Championship 2022 with Revolution, Colombia, and representing the national team of Colombia — both women's and the mixed team — several times.

"She is considered one of the top women's players to ever play the game and we are proud to have such an Allstar-calibre player in our team" — Richard (founder of Mela) says.

The sponsorship with GBS school was brought in by our Head Coach, Juan Camilo. Together with GBS. "We can finally offer a more budget friendly membership to all of our players along with free water every session" - Juan says. 

GBS school are a great addition to our sponsorships, they help us grow the sport by finding talents across the students of GBS, in return we offer a space for GBS students to excersice, network and find a community where they belong.

Every season the club revisits the Mela Bible together. The six core values stayed as they are; two of the eight standards were reworded to be clearer for players joining mid-season.

New members receive the document when they join and go through it with the Community Manager during their first month.

A large share of our players arrive in Malta for work or study and find the club before they find a flat. The Community Manager role exists to make that first contact easy: answer the message, meet them at the gate, put a disc in their hand.

The result is a sideline where twelve nationalities is normal, and where nobody spends their first session standing on the edge of a drill wondering what to do.

Mela travelled with a fifteen-player mixed roster and went through pool play unbeaten, including a comeback win from four goals down in the last game of day one.

The semi-final was settled by a late zone look that forced two turnovers in three possessions. In the final, both teams traded holds until the cap, with the title decided in universe point.

Runner-up is the club's best international finish since forming in 2017, and the squad returns to Attard with a clear list of things to sharpen before next season.
